Tea Benefits for Hair

Tea in general is rich in polyphenols, vitamin C and E, which offer incredible amounts of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Anti-oxidants go after free-radicals that are ultimately responsible for the break down of skin and hair. These tea properties have the ability to protect against the damage caused by UV radiation and other environmental aggressions resulting in healthier skin, scalp and hair.

The scalp is one of the most neglected parts of the body yet it forms the foundation for healthy, beautiful hair. Tea has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, and acts by soothing the scalp and preventing irritation. Compounds found in tea can balance the pH levels of the scalp, normalizing the oil production. This  will naturally neutralize secretions preventing both excessively oily or dry hair that can lead to either oily scalp or the formation of dandruff.

Green tea contains the most potent amount of phytochemical EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-galate), a polyphenol that acts as antibacterial agents that detoxify the skin and eliminate acne causing bacteria. Additionally, green tea reduces the inflammation in the pores, which is associated with acne. This is beneficial to the scalp as well by eliminating inflammation that can cause irritated and sensitive scalp.

Some studies even suggest that EGCG, present in green tea, stimulates the hair follicle and encourages hair growth.
